XP PC Game Compatibility
Being a dinosaur with a technical past I like to think that even though I use a newer OS it should still handle earlier apps (even only with emulation) and I can still play an old game for a change - well it can be difficult if it is a DOS game or needs early Win 95 support however XP is fairly good in this regard as the number of games it will handle is quite good and improving with all the smart folk out there making DOSBox apps and the like. I kinda like to know that my old games will still work on XP even if I don't play them anymore.
If running old games on XP ensure you have Service Pack 1 installed as this included a VESA improvement in the NTVDM (NT Virtual DOS Machine) which makes the difference on some games just not working.
I tend to use Virtual CD 4.3 to avoid the hassle of physically changing the CD's. Most of the attempted installs have been done from the virtual CD images but if not then it is mentioned.
Anyway here are some titles I have tried (not always to completion mind you) including newer titles which usually work OK - Here
